DAR State Conference 2012

This past weekend was the Oregon State Conference of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This year's location was the CH2M Alumni Center in Corvallis, with hotel accommodations at the Hilton Garden Inn. It was a very busy, and tiring weekend, but I really enjoyed it. I think this year things were less stressful. I paged again this year, and was much more comfortable doing it. It helps that I know more people after attending quarterly Board of Management Meetings. One big change for me this year was the hotel. I opted to share my room with another page. C is a new member (she joined in December) and this was her first state conference. Rooming with strangers (okay, we weren't strangers for long) can be difficult. And it's a trade off sometimes if saving money is with dealing with someone you don't know. Happily, this C and I get along well. And since we're both kind of enthusiastic about DAR and our projects, I'm sure we'll be crossing paths fairly often. Next year's state conference will be a big deal. Our (national) President General, Merry Ann T. Wright, will make her official visit to Oregon.

David Sedaris

Tonight Erin, Jennifer and I went to see David Sedaris at the Elsinore Theater. I confess I had no idea who he was. I did recognize his book covers after I saw them in the lobby, but I have never read them. So, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Turns out, Mr. Sedaris is very funny. And surprise...Once he began speaking I recognized his voice as the man who was standing behind us at the crosswalk about thirty minutes before the show.

Taste of Ashland 2012

Our annual trip south for Taste of Ashland was this weekend. I say annual, but it's really only the second annual one with my mom and sister. And with everything that can go on, who knows if we'll keep doing it. Anyway, this year one of my mom's friends came along. We had beautiful weather, good food, wine...It was so nice to just get away and be outside.
Heading home on Sunday we took our time and made a few stops along the way: Harry and David, Rogue Creamery, Lilliebelle Chocolates, the original Dutch Bros. on 6th Street in Grants Pass and the K & R Drive In at Rice Hill. It was a great weekend.

Butterflies!

Not too far away is a little place called Wings of Wonder. It's a greenhouse with a live flying, walk through butterfly exhibit. Last weekend, I made a trip out there with some friends. It was warm, peaceful, and interesting to interact with dozens of tropical butterflies.
